Seat Belt for Pregnant Woman

Designed by Shim Eun Ji & Song In Seok

An innovative seat belt designed to prioritize the safety and comfort of pregnant women.

An existing seatbelt is not designed to consider the abdominal size of pregnant women, which can pose potential risks in the event of a car accident. The increased abdominal size of pregnant women exerts more pressure on their abdomen, leading to increased pain and potential harm to the fetus. Recognizing this issue, designers Shim Eun Ji and Song In Seok have developed a unique seat belt specifically tailored to the needs of pregnant women.

The key feature of this seat belt is its grooved design, which provides flexibility and a secure fit, effectively decentralizing the pressure exerted on the abdomen. Unlike traditional seat belts, this design takes into account the unique abdominal size of pregnant women, ensuring their safety and comfort during car rides.

Not only does this seat belt address the specific needs of pregnant women, but it also offers versatility for individuals with various belt sizes. The practicality of the product allows it to be used by a wide range of users, ensuring safety and comfort for all.

The seat belt is designed with convenience in mind. When not in use, the belt can be easily stored by constricting the groove, rolling it back into the buckle, and securing the sharp part of the plate to the opposite side. Additionally, the buckle features a button and luminous edges, making it easy for drivers to locate and fasten the seat belt even in dark environments. When the buckle is secured, all lights turn off, providing a clear indication of proper usage.

The seat belt is composed of polyester and synthetic fiber, ensuring durability and stability. Its dimensions are 70 mm x 50 mm x 20 mm, making it suitable for a wide range of body types.

This innovative seat belt design was developed by Shim Eun Ji and Song In Seok in Korea. The project started in April 2016 and was completed in April 2020. It addresses the discomfort often associated with traditional seat belts and aims to improve the overall safety and experience for all users.

The seat belt for pregnant women has been recognized for its excellence in design and innovation. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Safety Clothing and Personal Protective Equipment Design category in 2016. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The seat belt design stands out for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better and safer world.
